I'm already off twitter. It wasn't working on my particular configuration for a few days around christmas time (firefox on windows 11 with some addons too) and then when I eventually got back on at some later date and it was like... well, my feed was full of the news about child labour protection rollbacks and the political attacks on trans people, and its like... I just remembered why twitter isn't a fun place to be and just dropped it. i dont really miss it.

Great post! I'm not a coder but I do get that there are often just the most gossamer of butterfly wings connecting and supporting these massively complex infrastructures that have evolved over time so it's interesting to have this confirmed in your points 1 and 2 above. Twitter has made so many big changes so quickly combined with the sudden loss of so much internal knowledge. I'm genuinely curious - I've been expecting the site to totally collapse for months and it hasn't (yet...) - why do you think that is? Do you think it's functionally running on luck and fumes and it will happen any day now, or has a basic/mostly functional point been reached that will allow to keep sort of working even if in the borked way it is now?
